Caroline Page the Liberal Democrats County Councillor for Woodbridge has her own website and is also active on social media.
What a year it has been. We cannot continue in local politics as if nothing has happened. This past year we have learnt so much about each other- our friendships, our families our workplaces -ourselves- and nothing will ever be the same again. Hopefully what we have learnt will guide us towards a better future. It cannot all have been for nothing. My vision for our beautiful Felixstowe Coastal is to nurture our wounded selves and at the same time move forward into a world where we have learnt that we cannot plunder the planet and our sense of community without dire consequences. So lets move on. Build a greener more compassionate neighbourhood and call the County Council and the Government to account when we feel action on the environment, housing, social care and mental health is not being taken - or not being actioned in any way which we can benefit from. It's time to stand up and come together for us and for the future generation.
The Liberal Democrats candidate for Suffolk Police and Crime Commissioner says "The Police, Suffolk County Council and the District and Borough Councils need to work together on road safety issues - whether it's speed limits and speeding enforcement, or inadequate maintenance and potholes, traffic management, or dangerous in road parking -shared intelligence can help address these issues. I would want to look at how to strengthen co-ordination mechanisms."
I argued for fair pay for County Councillors at Suffolk's Independent Remunerations Committee a couple of months back. Fair pay? I think all councillors should get the living wage plus pension contributions ( and they must be seen to work for it.) The committee's response was simple: "How can we afford to pay you a living wage? " (I said, "By getting your priorities right." Perhaps not the most tactful response) In Suffolk, backbench county councillors get £10,600 a year, for (in my case certainly) a very full year's work and with NO chance of occupational pension because 9 years ago Brandon Lewis told you ( the public) that you didn't believe we were due any such thing https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-20780587 Which is why most of Suffolk county councillors are well over pension age, or doing two jobs, or subsidised by a partner - or, occasionally - very poor. None are black, few are women and very very very few are young (because of not being able to build up any form of pension. It's not rocket scien
I want to live in a country where less advantaged citizens are treated fairly and where opportunity is open to all. The Liberal Democrats, free of the vested interests that bind the other main parties, are best placed to pursue both a stronger economy and a fairer society. And Liberal Democrats have a record of doing just that in national and local government.
