Getting Suffolk back on its Feet
Suffolk Lib Dems Campaign for the County Council and Police & Crime Commissioner gets underway
Liberal Democrat candidates across the County have stepped up their campaigning as the election campaign for the Suffolk County Council and Police & Crime Commissioner formally gets underway this week. Voters in Ipswich will also be able to cast their vote for Liberal Democrat candidates for the Ipswich Borough Council.
The party's theme in Suffolk is Getting Suffolk back on its Feet with the focus on Reconnecting, Reviving, and Regenerating Communities as the economic and social impact of Covid on business and the local economy and the lives and well-being of Suffolk residents young and old is exposed. Added to this, the continuing need to respond to climate change offers both a challenge and opportunity to invest and bring forward new solutions, new job opportunities alongside the need to protect our unique environmental assets.

Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader, Daisy Cooper MP, said: "People across the East of England have suffered as a result of the Conservative's disastrous handling of the pandemic. From the care homes scandal to the £37 billion test and trace system found to have made barely any difference, the UK has been left with one of the worst death rates in the world and one of the biggest economic hits of all major economies.
"The Tories delays and incompetence have cost lives, livelihoods and liberties. Even now, the recovery looks precarious for small businesses and high streets, with the government failing to deliver the kind of ambitious Small Business Recovery Plan which Liberal Democrats are calling for.
"Throughout the pandemic Liberal Democrats councils and councillors have supported and listened to their communities, making sure businesses got relief grants paid out on time, volunteered in vaccine centres, and helped get laptops to children for home-schooling where the government once again dragged its heels.
"Across the UK, Liberal Democrat councillors are a strong, competent force in local government who gets things done - electing more Liberal Democrats on the 6th May will help us build a fairer, greener and more caring country."
Over the coming days, as the May 6th election get closer, suffolklibdems.uk will feature the Lib Dem candidates and plans for a more caring, sustainable and safer Suffolk.
