Although born in Lancashire, John moved to East Suffolk before his second birthday. Educated at Southwold, Godalming and London, John's first career as a land surveyor led him to work for 10 years in the Middle-East, before marriage to a girl from the Saints precipitated a change of career to become a secondary school geography teacher in Suffolk for 20 years and then in south Norfolk as a college lecturer. John has lived in The Saints for 40 years.
Retirement has allowed John to spend more time in his environmentally friendly garden, sing in a local Choral Society and tackle a range of renovation projects.
John has been a Churchwarden at St Peter South Elmham for over 20 years and a Liberal Democrat for a similar length of time. He has helped on a practical basis at three Churches in the Saints tidying Churchyards, applying successfully for Grant aid John is also active with Bungay Christian Aid Committee.
From his teaching days, environmental issues have been close to John's heart and he is particularly aware of rural and farming issues. John would want to find out what the electorate wish from their councillors and then act on that within the constraints of the budget. He hopes that among these wishes people would want for a fairer, greener and more caring society.
