Helen was born and educated in Sheffield South Yorkshire with a Social Science Degree from Swansea University specialising in Politics and Economics. She then went onto to qualify as Solicitor.
Helen has been a resident of Bury St Edmunds for over 20 years has spent her whole working life as a solicitor in Suffolk specialising in Criminal and Family Law.
If she was a stick of rock she would like it to say "A fighter for justice and fair outcomes."
She has always been committed to legal aid work as rights become meaningless if they cannot be enforced.
When she first qualified she could see that the victims of crime were not well served and became involved with Victim Support and groups concerned with Survivors of Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault as well as the CAB ( Citizens Advice)
She is the daughter of a Polish a survivor of the Nazi concentration Camps, who came to
Britain in 1948 and then married a local girl. Helen shares her father's pride in the values behind our democracy. She is ever conscious that our freedoms and opportunities cannot be taken for granted.
During her career she has studied Environment Law and Environmental Sciences and is keen to applying this knowledge to local politics and action to combat the Climate Crisis.
Meeting and working with so many people from different walks of life has led her to believe that there is no such thing as an ordinary person. In politics she believes in experts and that includes all citizens, who so often are well aware of the problems we face but also have the solutions.
Since joining the Liberal Democrats in 2014 she has been an active campaigner and a candidate in both in local and national elections.
If elected in May she would pledge to consult and keep her constituents informed on the political decisions that are being made and to channel the wisdom that exists in our communities in the debates with the majority party.
