Caroline was first elected County Councillor for Woodbridge in the 2008 by-election, and has been re-elected in 2009, 2013 & 2017. Caroline is a passionate advocate for everything Woodbridge.. Across Suffolk she is a strong voice for rural buses, cycling, rail, young people, carers, women's issues, disability, affordable housing and sustainable living. She has frequently spoken out against Sizewell C and the adverse impact it will bring to the east of Suffolk, through environmental destruction, economic harm and damage to residents' ways of life.
Caroline has a background in writing and publishing. As one of her children has a significant disability she has spent years juggling full-time care with being sole earner for, and lone parent of, three children (all locally educated), while also caring for her elderly mother. All as a disabled non-driver. This real life experience has informed her role as county councillor.
Over the past 12 years Caroline has been Suffolk's Shadow spokesperson for Transport and Highways, and both Lib Dem party, and LibDem Green and Independent group spokesperson for Transport. She is currently LibDem, Green and Independent spokesperson for Women, Disability & Adult Care, and Vice Chair of Suffolk's Educational Transport Appeals panel. She is also Chair of Jetty Lane CIO, the proposed new youth community and arts centre in Woodbridge. Until the pandemic, she ran a monthly drop-in surgery in Woodbridge Library which ran unbroken for a decade - the only such provision in Suffolk Coastal.
